A Little Jaunt South (Part 3)

My problem is that I can't decide if I'm going to actually blog about something, and then I sit on it, and then more and more time passes, and by the time I decide that yes, I do want to blog about it, it's almost a month old.

Well, that, and sickness. Days and days and days of sickness.

But here I am again with part three of our little jaunt south. (To be decided if any more parts are coming. Check back in a month, haha.)

The first full day we were in California was Eric's big concrete pour. The second day was Valentine's Day.

Imagine my surprise when that morning (after working till 6am, mind you) Eric produced flowers, chocolate, DOUGHNUTS, and some toys for the boys! Bless his heart, instead of grabbing a little much-needed sleep, he'd spent one of his hours between concrete finishes to run into town.

I was so surprised. 🙂

He is just the literal best.

The closest thing we got to a Valentine's date was when we all loaded up and Eric took us up to the top of one of the hills.

Happy Valentine's Day to us. 🙂 It wasn't a fancy date or even a fun evening at home, but we were together, in a beautiful spot, with our funny little boys.

The Valentine's Day surprises weren't over yet though. By the end of the day we had not only moved the camper to a new spot where we could have both water and electric hook-ups, but someone told us about an unused bathroom we could have full access to. Hallelujah, hot showers coming up. 🙂

No matter how unpleasant parts of the trip were or the fact that we looked at each other and realized, You know, this trip really isn't very fun, at least we were together. That was the whole point in the first place, and we were so glad to not be states apart, not on Valentine's Day or on any day.

We spent another two and a half days in California, and I think each day got consecutively a little better than the last one. The best part was definitely being able to just walk out of the "house" and up the hill to where Eric was working. I have lots of "little boys on job site" pictures!

Day #3 . . . another concrete pour, this time outside.

Alec played Red Light, Green Light with two of the guys between concrete trucks, only at one point I heard him yell, "Purple light!" 🙂

I just love this picture of Emmett with his little excavator watching the big excavator. Some day, baby boy . . . Mini-excavator, mini-boy.

Sebastian had fun pretending to drive all the different machines. 🙂And of course Alec collected rocks.

Day #4 . . . time to break out the ear plugs.

Here's Sebastian pretending to screed concrete. 🙂

A boy and his hotdog.I thought this line-up of vehicles was funny. Another day, another picture of Sebastian in a machine. Day #5 . . . finally home-heading day! But first, some more framing.

And rain, of all things. The weather knew we were about to head back to Oregon apparently. 🙂

And then I finally got the text I'd been waiting for all week. 🙂 Leaving in 45 to 1hr. Hallelujah. The best part was I got it at least two hours before I was expecting it. 🙂 We were all ready to head home.

Goodbye, job site.

Goodbye, beautiful hills.

Goodbye, employees and work clothes and long hours.

Hello, long and winding road through the Redwoods and back to Oregon.

And thankfully, not goodbye to us. Me and him.

He could've just left for a week, but he made it possible for all of us to go with him. 🙂 He's the best.

The literal best.
